20 week [update]

So! Today is 20 weeks, as I mentioned in my earlier post. By the numbers, this means:
10 inches head to toe (no longer measuring crown to rump!)
10.6 oz
Roughly the size of a banana

I have gained about 4-6 lbs (since it fluctuates) since my prepregnancy weight, all but 2 lbs of that in the last 2-3 weeks, and I finally had to invest in a new bra.

But let’s be real. The exciting news is that I got my ultrasound today! The little bumblebee was being difficult and the tech had a hard time getting all the pictures she was looking for, but we did eventually get them all after a little poking around my lower abdomen and some rolling from side to side on my part. We saw a foot, hands, a bit of face  (though the baby was in a sort of boxer’s block with hands by the face so not a super great or clear picture)…. and we were able to find out the sex.

We didn’t find out with Darwin, but as she was being born we realized that we had both been so convinced that she was a girl that we weren’t really mentally prepared for the possibility of a boy. Besides that, I reallllllly wanted another girl this time, and so if this little bee was a boy I wanted some time to get used to the idea.

As it turned out, I didn’t need it! This little bumblebee, just like our first little bug, is a girl! Darwin is going to have a little sister! I’m super excited. I grew up with three sisters and even as much as we fought with each other, we always had each other’s backs and I still consider them my best friends. Obviously every family is different but I like the idea of Darwin and bumblebee having the possibility of that kind of relationship. Plus now I don’t have to buy peepee teepees. Not gonna lie– As a lesbian raised with only sisters,  penises weird me out and I’m not sorry I won’t have to deal with that.

Now I’m exhausted and we’re just chilling at home. I made mango salsa and guacamole to go with my newest experiment of fish tacos for dinner (and yeah, I had another bacon sandwich for lunch). In all, it’s a good day. 😀
